MINNEAPOLIS − Is this the week where the Eagles put together a strong game offensively for an entire game?
We have seen it for an entire half. But at some point, especially in the third quarter, the Eagles have bogged down. That cost them with two losses the week of Oct. 5, when they blew a 14-point lead in the fourth quarter against the Broncos, and again four days later when they couldn’t keep pace in the second half against the Giants.
But the Eagles (4-2) have had 10 days since that 34-17 loss to New York. And they used that time to go over their mistakes and figure out some consistency for their game against the Vikings (3-2) on Oct. 19.

The crux of what the Eagles learned, according to left tackle Jordan Mailata, is “do your (expletive) job.” The Eagles will have to do it against the NFL’s No. 2-ranked pass defense, while stopping former Eagles franchise QB Carson Wentz, and top receivers in Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, along with tight end T.J. Hockenson.

Eagles 28, Vikings 19: Jalen Hurts is absolutely sizzling, 3 TD passes
The Eagles’ lead was down to 2 points, and the Eagles faced a 3rd-and-13 from their 27. That’s when Hurts scrambled to his left and hit A.J. Brown for 13 yards for a first down. A few plays later, he had DeVonta Smith for 20 yards down to the Vikings’ 27, and then Brown again for the touchdown.
That gave the Eagles a 28-19 lead with 6:35 left. Smith’s last reception gave him a career-high 183 yards for the game. Hurts, meanwhile, was 18 of 21 for 281 yards and 3 TDs. He has a perfect passer rating of 158.3
Eagles 21, Vikings 16: Carson Wentz leads TD drive
The Vikings got their first touchdown of the game on a direct snap to Jordan Mason, who scored from the 4 to cut into the Eagles’ lead. The Vikings quickly moved down the field after starting their drive at their 40.
Eagles 21, Vikings 9: Jalen Hurts 79-yard TD pass to DeVonta Smith
The Eagles finally got untracked as Jalen Hurts threw deep to DeVonta Smith. This time, Hurts didn’t overthrow his receiver as he did each of the last two games. Smith got behind former Eagles CB Isaiah Rodgers and hauled in the 79-yard touchdown pass.
That gave the Eagles a 21-9 lead with 8:07 left in the third quarter. The Eagles had just 117 yards in the first half.
Halftime update: Eagles 14, Vikings 6, Carson Wentz throws 2 INTs
Once again, the Eagles’ offense couldn’t sustain a strong start. After scoring a touchdown on the opening possession on Jalen Hurts’ 37-yard TD pass to A.J. Brown on fourth down, the Eagles didn’t get another first down until their final drive of the first half that began with 59 seconds left.
But the Eagles couldn’t get close enough for a field goal as Hurts was sacked to end the half.
The Eagles, however, intercepted Carson Wentz twice in the first half, including a 42-yard pick-6 by Jalyx Hunt with 13:26 left in the second quarter.
Hurts was 9-for-11 for 86 yards and a touchdown. Saquon Barkley had just 30 yards on 8 carries, with 24 of those yards coming on the opening drive. Wentz, the former Eagle, was 11-for-19 for 162 yards.
Eagles 14, Vikings 6: Jalen Hurts, offense struggling without Cam Jurgens
The Eagles haven’t been able to sustain their strong first quarter, in part because of Cam Jurgens leaving with a knee injury. Since scoring on their opening possession, the Eagles have gone 3-and-out on three straight possessions.
The Vikings, however, could only pull to within 14-6 as a touchdown on 4th-and-1 from the Eagles’ 6 was taken off the board because of a holding penalty. They had to settle for a field goal.
Eagles 14, Vikings 3: Jalyx Hunt with pick-6 on Carson Wentz
Jalyx Hunt dropped into coverage and Wentz never saw him as he threw over the middle on 3rd-and-5. Hunt intercepted the pass, then headed down to the left sideline, untouched, to score a 42-yard touchdown. That gave the Eagles a 14-3 lead with 13:26 left in the second quarter.
On the next possession, Wentz threw an interception on 2nd-and-27 from the Vikings’ 9 to Drew Mukuba at the Eagles’ 44. That came one play after his pass went out of bounds. But because he threw it backwards, it was an 8-yard loss and a charged fumble.
The Vikings fans were booing loudly as he came off the field.
Eagles 7, Vikings 3: Carson Wentz, Vikings’ drive fizzle
Wentz’s first drive against the Eagles started out well for Wentz. He completed a 34-yard pass to Jordan Addison to the Eagles’ 32. The Vikings had a first down at the Eagles’ 19, but Wentz threw incomplete twice.
Then on 3rd-and-10, the ball was snapped over Wentz’s head. Wentz recovered for a 22-yard loss, and the Vikings Will Reichard made a 59-yard field goal.
Eagles 7, Vikings 0: Jalen Hurts 37-yard TD to A.J. Brown
It was an opening drive that had to make everyone happy. The Eagles established the run as Saquon Barkley carried 5 times for 24 yards. Even Tank Bigsby, playing running back for the first time, had an 11-yard carry. But facing 4th-and-3 from the Vikings’ 37, Hurts threw deep to A.J. Brown, who got behind Joshua Metellus and scored, giving the Eagles the lead with 6:59 left in the first quarter.
Eagles inactives: Jalen Carter, Dickerson back, but AJ Dillon benched
The Eagles have two key players who were listed as questionable playing vs the Vikings in left guard Landon Dickerson and defensive tackle Jalen Carter.
Dickerson injured his ankle against the Broncos on Oct. 5 and missed the game against the Giants on Oct. 9. Carter suffered a heel injury on Oct. 8, the day before the Giants game, and sat out. But Carter was listed as “limited” in practice on the final two days of the practice week.
In a surprising move, RB AJ Dillon is not on the game-day roster. That means Tank Bigsby, who also serves as the kick returner, could get his first carries as an Eagle, who traded for him Sept. 9. The Eagles’ other inactives are OL Drew Kendall, CB Mac McWilliams, TE Grant Calcaterra and QB Sam Howell.
Delaware native Brian O’Neill returns to Vikings
Vikings right tackle, the Salesianum star, is returning after missing the previous game with a knee injury. O’Neill, who’s in his eighth season, all with the Vikings who made him their second-round draft pick, was listed as questionable for the game. He was injured against the Steelers on Sept. 28.
Is Eagles’ DT Jalen Carter playing vs Vikings?
All signs indicate that defensive tackle Jalen Carter will play after missing the game against the Giants on Oct. 9. Carter hurt his heel in practice the day before that game. He practiced fully on Oct. 15, but was limited the next two days and listed as questionable. The NFL Network was reporting that he is expected to play. We’ll find out for sure when inactives are announced 90 minutes before the game.

Eagles vs. Vikings prediction
- Vikings 24, Eagles 20: The difference from Carson Wentz 2025 and Carson Wentz 2020 is that he’s no longer playing “hero ball.” He’s getting the ball out in an average of 2.55 seconds per pass attempt, according to the NFL’s NextGen Stats, the quickest in the NFL. Why mess around when you have Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison and T.J. Hockenson to throw to? The Eagles, meanwhile, are still trying to find their offensive identity. Eagles vs Vikings predictions:
Eagles injury updates
The Eagles ruled OUT TE Grant Calcaterra (oblique). They listed DT Jalen Carter (heel) and LG Landon Dickerson (ankle) as QUESTIONABLE. Everyone else, including CB Quinyon Mitchell, who left the Giants game in the second quarter with a hamstring injury, is cleared to play.
Vikings injury updates
The Vikings ruled OUT OLB Andrew Van Ginkel. The following players are listed as QUESTIONABLE: OLB Tyler Batty, LB Blake Cashman, DL Tyrion Ingram-Dawkins, OL Michael Jurgens, QB J.J. McCarthy, RT Brian O’Neill. It should be noted that Batty and Cashman were activated off IR on Oct. 18.
Weather forecast for Eagles vs Vikings
The National Weather Service is calling for sunny skies and a high of 59 degrees. But it won’t matter because the game is played in a dome. Still, the glass windows all around U.S. Bank Stadium will allow in plenty of sunshine.
